What You Should Know Before Choosing a Web Design Firm

BIRMINGHAM, AL - Selecting the right web design firm is more important than it might seem. An inexperienced web design firm can make costly errors that are largely uncorrectable. This can be equated to a novice home builder that forgets to install the plumbing and electrical before putting up all the sheetrock and painting. A few of the most important issues to look out for are listed below.
Download Time:
Download time is by far the most important factor of the three listed. A site that takes too long to load will never have the opportunity to entice its visitors with its exciting products and services. Often companies and web designers try to impress their customers and clients with slow-loading graphics that impede traffic more than they amaze visitors. If enough immovable graphics are integrated into the site, the site’s structure or shell will have to be redesigned from the bottom up. This is the equivalent of building one home for the price of two.
Navigation:
A site’s navigation is the second most important design element. A visitor usually doesn’t want to spend much time looking for what they want. They are the equivalent of someone shopping on their lunch break. Getting in and out as quickly as possible is their goal. So, the navigation has to be simple and well organized. Plus, more product offerings are likely to be added at any time. All of this must be taken into consideration upfront when building the site. Otherwise, the site will end up looking like the Winchester Mansion.
Appearance:
“Don’t buy an ugly site.” The design of a website is important, because it conveys to customers a company's image. Plain, boring, or just unattractive sites aren’t the only problem. A hip and trendy site that looks good for two years is great, as long as it’s changed within two years. If its not going to be updated until the company is listed on the NYSE, its best to request a classic site design that will withstand the test of time (in website years at least).
